DescriptionThis is the inaugural Bondi Icebergs Open Water Challenge held on the Saturday prior to Bondi Icebergs Opening Day 2021.
The Challenge was launched from the Bogey Hole just down the steps at the end of the Pool, swum to a buoy just off the North end boat ramp and return. It’s a distance of about 1.6k on a good day (it was a very good day). The swim was supported with water safety from the Bondi Surf Bathers' Life-Saving Club.
We have previously held a similar race every other year with our Pacific Partners from SERC. We decided to do this every year, one year with just the Icebergs and one year with SERC.
There are three categories for you to compete for:
Fastest Male swimmer
Fastest Female swimmer
Nearest to nominated time
The categories provide an opportunity for swimmers of all paces and styles to compete.
There was a wave for those in fins, wetsuits and any other floatation devices that are beyond the regulation swimwear for competing in the winter swimming season. There will be no prizes or places awarded for this wave.
